Herne Hill is a town located across two London Boroughs – Lambeth and Southwark. In Herne Hill is found Brockwell Park, and in Brockwell Park atop the hill stands Brockwell Hall, built in 1831. Brockwell Park also boasts many facilities such as a BMX track a bowling green, duck ponds, a cafe and tennis courts as well as a walled garden, children’s play equipment, paddling pool and football fields. Definitely something for everyone and easy to pass the day there.
Brockwell Park holds the annual Lambeth County Fair and is also home to the beautiful Brockwell Lido an outdoor swimming pool built in 1937. Stop by the pool and take part on one of their many classes – not just in the water! Join in a yoga class, pilates, an hour in the gym or just sit in the cafe and enjoy a cup of tea.
The only remaining cycle track in London is also found in Herne Hill. The Herne Hill Velodrome was built in 1891 and it was here that the 1948 Olympic Games’ track cycling events were held.
